The Utah Division of Securities issues this alert to warn investors about an active imposter scheme targeting the public. Referrals to the Utah Division of Securities and the FBI claim impostors established an entity called North Capital Markets and created a website at www.northcapitalmarket.com. This website impersonates North Capital Private Securities Corporation, a legitimate firm headquartered in Utah. The unauthorized entity uses the legitimate firm’s intellectual property, names, and photos of company officials, and social media profiles to execute cryptocurrency and other investment trading schemes. The official, authorized website for North Capital Private Securities Corporation is www.northcapital.com.
Imposter schemes occur when unauthorized individuals misuse the name, address, or credentials of legitimate investment firms to gain trust. Bad actors build websites with web addresses similar to legitimate businesses to capture personal details or funds. Scammers contact individuals on social media and move conversations to group chats on encrypted apps like WhatsApp or Telegram. The fraudsters then share altered registration documents, modified regulatory reports, or fake certificates to claim regulatory approval. Securities regulators do not issue official regulatory certificates to firms. Scammers promise guaranteed profits, access to exclusive investment groups, or trading signals.
Investors must compare website domains carefully because imposter sites often add, remove, or change letters. Search firm names and individual licenses on FINRA BrokerCheck at brokercheck.finra.org or the SEC Investment Adviser Public Disclosure database at adviserinfo.sec.gov. Contact firms using the phone numbers and addresses listed on official regulatory filings rather than information provided in unverified emails or messaging apps. Do not send funds, cryptocurrency, driver’s license copies, or social security numbers to unverified entities.
