Scope of Practice Review Application

A scope of practice review is a review the Office of Professional Licensure Review conducts to decide whether to recommend that a regulated healthcare occupation incorporate an innovation into its practice in a way that would expand the scope of that occupation's license.

Please call or email the Office of Professional Licensure Review before you submit an application. We will ask a few screening questions to confirm your request fits what the statute allows us to review. If it does not, we can tell you that before you do the work of completing the application.

Email [email protected], or call 801-530-6701.

Please note:

  • Only a legislator, or a representative of an employer of healthcare practitioners, an institution of higher education that trains healthcare practitioners, or a professional group of healthcare practitioners, may request a review.
  • The request must concern an upgrade in technology. A technology that functions solely to give a patient advice or treatment with no practitioner involved is not an innovation and cannot be reviewed.
  • Supporting documentation is welcome but not required. The office may ask you for more information after it receives your request.
  • There is no fee. The office decides whether to conduct the review, and it will give you a reason if it declines.
