Service Animal Resources
Utah's Disability Law Center assists the public in understanding laws and regulations concerning service animals and public accommodation.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a service animal is specifically defined as a dog that has been individually trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability. These animals are permitted in all public spaces, such as businesses and restaurants, and must be treated as working animals, not pets. In contrast, emotional support animals typically do not have the same public access rights under the ADA.
