If you are currently licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in a state, territory, or district of the United States you may qualify for licensure by endorsement. Click here for additional information.

If applying for Initial Licensure and you do not currently hold a Utah ACMHC, you must also provide documentation of meeting the education requirement (submit one of the options below):

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Mental Health Counseling program ONLY that is accredited by CACREP. Submit OFFICIAL transcripts that identify the degree earned and date conferred.
    - OR -
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Mental Health Counseling program or equivalent field that is accredited by CHEA. Submit OFFICIAL transcripts that identify the degree earned and date conferred. Submit Course descriptions or syllabus for EACH course Complete and submit the EDUCATIONAL COURSE REQUIREMENTS pages.

The following requirements must be met:

  • Record of Clinical Supervision Hours
    • NOTE: If your Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor License was issued prior to May 1, 2024, you must complete the following hours:
      • 3000 total hours, including 1000 hours of Direct Client Care, and 75 hours of Direct Clinical Supervision.
    • NOTE: If your Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor was issued as of May 1, 2024, you must complete the following hours:
      • 3000 total hours, including 1200 hours of Direct Client Care, and 100 hours of Direct Clinical Supervision (25 of which must include Direct Observation).
  • Official score report for passing the NCMHCE exam
    • Official reports must be sent directly to the Division from NBCC.
  • Proof of completing 2 hours of continuing education in suicide prevention
