First-in-the-Nation Office for AI Policy, Regulation, and Innovation
The Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy consults with businesses, academic institutions, and other stakeholders to facilitate dialogue on regulatory proposals to foster innovation and safeguard public safety. The office also has authority to craft regulatory relief agreements to facilitate novel deployments of AI (see Utah Code § 13-72-302).
Through these ground-breaking measures, Utah is setting a new standard for innovative governing and leading the nation in AI innovation and regulation.

Submit Application
Submit an application describing your AI technology, intended use case, and any regulatory challenges you're facing. Our team reviews submissions on a rolling basis.
Application Review and Consultation
Our team evaluates your application and schedules a consultation to better understand your technology and goals. We work collaboratively to identify the right path forward.
Mitigation Agreement
Together, we develop a tailored mitigation agreement that outlines safeguards, reporting requirements, and conditions that allow your technology to operate within a flexible regulatory framework.
Ongoing Monitoring and Support
Once approved, OAIP provides continuous support and monitoring to ensure compliance, gather real-world insights, and refine policy recommendations based on your deployment experience.
