Renewal Frequently Asked Questions
You can renew once you receive the renewal notice, through the email address on file, about 60-90 days before your license expires. This email contains everything you need to start the renewal process.
To find out when your license type expires, visit the DOPL renewal guide webpage.
DOPL sends your unique registration code to the email address on file for you to be able to renew your license online.
These codes are sent to your email 60-90 days before your license expires. You cannot receive your registration code earlier than this window. If you haven't seen your registration code when your 60 days before renewal, check your spam folder before contacting the Division.
DOPL does offer an inactive status for some professional license types. These select license types can place their license on inactive status at any time, as long as it is active and in good standing. Licensees will need to answer a general questionnaire, fill out an inactivation form, and pay an inactivation fee of $50.
You cannot practice your profession while your license is inactive, and you must still renew the inactive license every two years. You may also reactivate an inactive license at any time via a similar process as inactivation (questionnaire, form, and fee).
Visit your profession's licensing page to see if you qualify for an inactive license.
Yes, however, late fees will be applied to licenses that are renewed after the expiration date.
Note: A license that has expired more than two years prior must submit a Reinstatement Application to return to active status.
