Renewal Requirements

Social Work license renewals are due September 30th of even years and require the following:

Social Service Worker

  • $88 renewal fee
  • 20 hours of continuing education (CE) directly related to your professional practice
    • 6 hours must be in professional ethics, law, or technology
    • 2 hours must be in suicide prevention

Certified Social Worker

  • $103 renewal fee
  • 40 hours of continuing education (CE) directly related to your professional practice
    • Required Courses
      • 6 hours must be in professional ethics, law, or technology
      • 2 hours must be in suicide prevention
    • Classroom Requirements
      • 10 hours of CE may be accrued from online, self-study courses
      • 30 hours must be accrued from an in-person course or via live, interactive webinars
Pro-rated CEs: licensees who are completing their first cycle of continuing education and have not been licensed for 2 full years will be required to complete 0.8 hours of CE for each month they were licensed, based on the license issue date - expiration date.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

  • $103 renewal fee
  • 40 hours of continuing education (CE) directly related to your professional practice
    • Required Courses
      • 6 hours must be in professional ethics, law, or technology
      • 2 hours must be in suicide prevention
    • Classroom Requirements
      • 10 hours of CE may be accrued from online, self-study courses
      • 30 hours must be accrued from an in-person course or via live, interactive webinars
Pro-rated CEs: licensees who are completing their first cycle of continuing education and have not been licensed for 2 full years will be required to complete 1.6 hours of CE for each month they were licensed, based on the license issue date - expiration date.

Renewal Instructions

Please note that this process is most effective when done on a computer rather than a mobile device.
  1. Log in to My License One using your UtahID. If you do not have a UtahID, you will be directed to create an account.
  2. Once logged in, scroll down to the "Existing License/Registration Holders" section.
  3. If your license isn't listed there, click the "Don't see your license . . ." link.
  4. Search for your license using the details in your renewal notice (emailed to you 90 days before your expiration date).
  5. Once your license is listed, click on the three dots under the "Actions" column to start the renewal process.
Renew Online

Additional Information

  • A receipt will be sent to the email address on file up to 2 business days after the payment is made. NOTE: fees are non-refundable.
  • A copy of the license will be sent to the email address on file 1-3 business days after approval.ย 
  • DOPL will send a renewal notice to the email address on file 90 days prior to the expiration date. Utah Code 58-1-301.7 requires you to notify DOPL of any change to your address or email address within 10 business days. You can update your information at any time by visiting My License One.
  • Continuing to practice a profession after a license has expired is considered unlawful conduct and a criminal offense, per Utah Code 58-1-501(1)(a) and 58-1-502. DOPL may take disciplinary action for any period of time worked without a license, or for failing to meet renewal requirements, even after the license has been renewed or reinstated.
