Bail Bonds Licensing

Effective September 1, 2026, the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) will regulate the bail bonds industry under the newly enacted Bail Bond Licensing Act, Utah Code 58-93. DOPL will oversee licensing and enforcement for all bail bond agencies, enforcement agents, recovery agents, and recovery apprentices.

If you currently hold a Department of Public Safety (DPS) Bail Bond license, that license remains valid until the expiration date DPS assigned to you. You can apply for a new DOPL bail bond license up to 60 days before your DPS license expires. Your DPS license will count as an endorsement that satisfies the education and experience requirements for the same license classification. Once your DOPL license is approved, you will receive a DOPL license number and a new ID card.
