NOTICE:

New Building Official Requirement
Beginning May 1, 2026, Building Officials will be required, pursuant to Utah Code Ann. ยง15A-1-202(16)(c), to complete the 40-hour management training for a โ€œqualified building officialโ€ provided by the Utah Association of Building Officials (UABO).

NOTICE

New License for Private Home Inspectors

In 2025, the Utah State Legislature enacted House Bill 58, creating a new license classification for Private Home Inspectors. The Division will make the application for this license available on the effective date ofย  May, 1, 2026.

In preparation for implementation, individuals seeking licensure as a Private Home Inspector pursuant to Utah Code ยง 58-56-9 and Utah Admin. Code R156-56-302, shall demonstrate:

  • Current liability insurance and errors and omissions (E&O) insurance, each with a minimum coverage amount of $500,000, naming the Division as the certificate holder; and
  • Current certification from one or more of the following organizations:
    • American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI)
    • International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI)
    • International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Combination Inspector

The Division typically processes complete applications within seven business days and will grant a grace period until May 1, 2026, before enforcing the new licensure requirement.ย
