Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Speech-Language Pathologists: A speech-language pathologist licensed for at least two years is permitted to supervise a maximum of two temporary license holders.

Audiologists: An audiologist licensed for at least two years is authorized to provide supervision for up to two individuals with temporary licenses.

A temporary license remains valid for a period of up to 12 months, beginning the day after the division issues the license.

Within the State of Utah, assistants do not hold individual licenses; however, they are required to operate under the direct supervision of a licensed audiologist.

The specific regulations governing assistant are outlined in R156-41-601. Under these rules, an assistant is prohibited from the following:

Creating clinical management plans or diagnostic statements; formulating strategies and procedures; sharing findings or observations with anyone besides their supervisor; making decisions regarding case selection; drafting or signing clinical reports on their own; providing diagnosis or treatment; managing patient discharge or disposition; and making referrals to other agencies or professionals.
